Resources For Human Development

The Youth Development and Career Readiness program is an inspiring place of opportunity that is designed to equip students with the skills and experience necessary for a proficient workforce. By effectively training and informing these students, they will have the ability to blossom into an intensely motivated and driven world of professionals. This is possible through the teaching of core professional skills and the placement of on-site internship experience.

Sankofa

Junior Servant Leaders are assistant teachers in the Philadelphia Freedom Schools class. They assist with an African centered literacy and numeracy curriculum for Scholars in K-8 grades. Emerging Servant Leaders are environmental students and advocates who participate in the Ujima Freedom School's outdoor program.

Steppingstone Scholars, Inc.

The high school WorkReady program will provide incentive-based STEM programs (computer science/coding, chemistry, biotechnology, engineering), and wage-based programs placing students in jobs at local businesses such as grocery stores, book stores, cafes, etc.

Steppingstone Scholars, Inc.

Steppingstone Scholars will offer a wage-based program for current high school students to obtain an in-person summer job placement at a local business. This includes positions in customer service, retail. community gardening, etc. There will also be incentive-based program for current 12th graders & recent graduates who would like a program to support them in transitioning into the workforce. Lastly, we have incentive-based 9th-12th grade STEM programs in coding, engineering, biotech, etc.

Temple University, University Community Collaborative (Uccp)

We seek to build the individual and collective power of youth to make positive change in their communities. Through project based learning students work in collaboration on small teams to alter the landscape of local media, by highlighting the missing perspectives, contributions and concerns of young people. Through our after-school and summer programs, youth produce short films, journalistic segments , episodes, and other creative expressions of art that reflect YOUR ideas, story, and vision.

Temple University- The Information Technology And Society Research Group (Itsrg)

The goal of the program at the Office of the Vice President, Information Technology and Social Research Group (ITSRG) at Temple is to provide workforce educational opportunities for students utilizing digital media, communications, information technology, and content creation which focus on community efforts. This is an interactive experience for students to explore and identify the multiple ways technology can enhance their own communities within the city.

Equity Works is an incentive-based project that will explore the history of racism and empower youth of color through creative expression and launching a start-up to work for racial equity in Kensington. High school students will create and present a show featuring music, art, photography, film, and spoken word, or develop and launch an online store for social justice. Workshops on plant propagation, music production, marketing, social media, event planning, budgeting, and change-making.

The Niche Clinic

Teenagers and young adults below the age of 24 who enroll in the Start-Up Summer School will have access to the Summer Niche Jobs experience. These individuals will receiving a paying internships at one of our 15 partnering small businesses or across our 30 partnering nonprofit activity sites. Across the 45 activity sites, youth will give back to the community, earn some money, and receive a hands-on approach to financial literacy by budgeting, saving and investing with their actual paychecks.
