We will be collaborating with local community stem professionals as well as other stem professionals who work for the better good of others. Some of these professionals will not be the stereotypical representation of a STEM career professional. It will also serve to represent the groups that are under-represented in the STEM professions. Participants will work their way through an online STEM based curriculum provided by PYN/Workready.

Catholic Social Services Intermediate Program will focus on providing supported early employment experiences through a variety of work locations. Some sites will be with youth programs, small businesses, and information technology opportunities, we are working to recruit more high quality sites for youth to have a variety of options. Weekly virtual sessions will be paired with this to help participants create a portfolio of their experience and reflect on their interests for future planning.

The Summer Youth Works Program employs Philadelphia youth for six weeks during the summer. Summer youth workers are expected to work 20 hours a week for six weeks. Each year students complete a service-learning project around a specific theme. The program is designed to give high school students real work experience while enhancing community involvement and academic achievement. Students also participate in skills development activities, workshops, and field trips.

Youth at the 8th & Poplar Farm, can expect to work both independently as well as in a group, to help with all aspects of the farm- from seeding and planting, to harvesting. Youth will help lead our farm stand where we sell everything we grow to our local community. We will also learn spend time learning about healthy lifestyles and how to cook using the food directly from the garden.

Mural Arts Philadelphia

Mural Arts Education partners with the Philadelphia Youth Network’s WorkReady Program to provide summer programming and employment opportunities for youth enrolled in the Art Education program. Youth work in teams at sites across Philadelphia with Teaching Artists on various large or small scale mural projects. The Art Education program helps students across the city unlock their creative capacities, inviting them to take risks, share their experiences, and illustrate the world as they see it.

SEAMAAC’s Hip Hop Heritage (H3) program is an afterschool and summer program for low-income Philadelphia students in grades 7 – 12. H3 uses project-based learning with the core strategy in arts, visual, performing, and media production. The focus is on building youth skills in hip hop, including instruction in breakdancing, graffiti, and leadership through a lens of civic engagement, cultural heritage and social justice.

Temple University’s Center for Community Partnerships provides engaging entry-level, intermediate work experiences, with exposure to professional careers, and interaction with trained adult supervisors. Youth are placed at worksites where they learn while contributing meaningfully to the community worksites.
