Programs Offered

The Summer Youth Works Program employs Philadelphia youth for six weeks during the summer. Summer youth workers are expected to work 20 hours a week for six weeks. Each year students complete a service-learning project around a specific theme. The program is designed to give high school students real work experience while enhancing community involvement and academic achievement. Students also participate in skills development activities, workshops, and field trips.

METWorks Youth are provided 21 Century Learning & Practice; entrepreneurial training and career/business exposure. Students will engage in rigorous interaction with role-model guest speakers and high level public/private community stakeholders. Major Weekly Activities include: Health prevention education; community lecture mentoring; entrepreneurial workshops with mentoring/coaching ; exposure to law and juvenile justice related careers/job shadowing and civic engagement exposure.

Temple University’s Center for Community Partnerships provides engaging entry-level, intermediate work experiences, with exposure to professional careers, and interaction with trained adult supervisors. Youth are placed at worksites where they learn while contributing meaningfully to the community worksites. The program includes placement in a professional work environment; pre-employment training; engagement in on-going learning and opportunities for reflection.

Career Exposure Program recruits 6th & 7th graders between the ages of 12-14 to participate in activities that develop awareness and readiness for a variety of careers. Service Learning Program recruits 8th - 12th graders between the ages of 14-24 to participate in an engaging summer experience. Participants are matched with a project based on their interests. Project areas include: sports leadership, arts & media, education, public health, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement.
