Resources For Human Development

The Youth Development and Career Readiness program is an inspiring place of opportunity that is designed to equip students with the skills and experience necessary for a proficient workforce. By effectively training and informing these students, they will have the ability to blossom into an intensely motivated and driven world of professionals. This is possible through the teaching of core professional skills and the placement of on-site internship experience.

Sankofa

Junior Servant Leaders are assistant teachers in the Philadelphia Freedom Schools class. They assist with an African centered literacy and numeracy curriculum for Scholars in K-8 grades. Emerging Servant Leaders are environmental students and advocates who participate in the Ujima Freedom School's outdoor program.

SEAMAAC’s Hip Hop Heritage Summer program aims to build a multi-racial and multi-ethnic community of Philadelphia youth. H3 supports youth in identifying and pursuing access to opportunities in the creative and performing arts. H3 is a project-based learning program focusing on the hip hop arts, including instruction in breakdancing, photography, music production, and graffiti arts. Youth take on community projects using hip hop arts as vehicles to tell their experiences.

Steppingstone Scholars, Inc.

Steppingstone Scholars will offer a wage-based program for current high school students to obtain an in-person summer job placement at a local business. This includes positions in customer service, retail. community gardening, etc. There will also be incentive-based program for current 12th graders & recent graduates who would like a program to support them in transitioning into the workforce. Lastly, we have incentive-based 9th-12th grade STEM programs in coding, engineering, biotech, etc.

WorkReady is a citywide youth development program designed to expose young professionals to real-world job experiences and opportunities. This year, Sunrise is offering an Early Incentive program targeted towards young people with little to no previous work experience. Open to youth 12 years and up (focused on youth in 6th-8th grade), these programs offer hands-on activities and learning sessions focused on exploring future career opportunities, career pathways, setting short-term goals, etc

Temple University - Center For Community Partnerships

Temple University's Center for Community Partnership operates a Summer Work Ready program to young people, ages 14 to 18. The program provides youth with opportunities for career exploration and learning about career pathways, while also earning a wage for completing a summer experience. Youth will be match with companies and non-profit organizations with a specific industry focus on IT (information technology), recreation, community and civic engagement and/or entrepreneurship.
