The overall goal of the program is to provide academic, cultural and mental health enhancements that promote individual achievement and youth and family stability. To prepare students in accessing opportunities and resources of post-secondary education and career exploration and to serve as a support to families in providing expanded learning opportunities. Youth in our program will be placed at various worksites where they will gain the necessary workforce readiness skills.

The Summer Youth Works Program employs Philadelphia youth for six weeks during the summer. Summer youth workers are expected to work 20 hours a week for six weeks. Each year students complete a service-learning project around a specific theme. The program is designed to give high school students real work experience while enhancing community involvement and academic achievement. Students also participate in skills development activities, workshops, and field trips.

Educators 4 Education

The E4E WorkReady program focused on service learning and Work Force Development. Youth (ages 14 to 24) participated in the program working hands at community sites throughout the six week program. Participants worked in early childhood centers/summer camps and recreational programs, throughout Philadelphia. Youth also receive professional development skills.

Youth at the 8th & Poplar Farm, can expect to work both independently as well as in a group, to help with all aspects of the farm- from seeding and planting, to harvesting. Youth will help lead our farm stand where we sell everything we grow to our local community. We will also learn spend time learning about healthy lifestyles and how to cook using the food directly from the garden.

Foundations, Inc.

Foundations for the Future will offer a six-week summer opportunity to youth ages 14 to 21. Students will participate for 20 hours per week, including on‐the‐job experience, and a weekly seminar designed to review and reinforce 21st century skill development. Portfolios will be compiled containing documents necessary for securing a job. Students will also complete a media project designed to give voice to their interests and concerns, and to give practical application to their emerging skills.

Free Library Of Philadelphia

The Free Library of Philadelphia is enrolling up to 100 teens to serve as Junior Programming Specialists (JPS) for our WorkReady experience. Junior Programming Specialists will complete tasks that are rooted in Library and Community Engagement, Life Skills, and Work Readiness. JPSs will report tasks to the Free Library PYN team, meet with librarians, peers, and PYN mentors. The program will span over the course of 6 weeks.
